About the Show:

Julius Caesar brings the epic story of ambition, betrayal, justice, and political idealism of the Roman Republic to the Cedar Valley Arboretum and Botanic Gardens from June 19th through the 23rd. With a treacherous assassination that causes Rome to erupt into a warzone, a doomed rebellion led by the noble Marcus Brutus and the cunning Caius Cassius unfolds, blood spills and loyalties waver. Directed by Alan Malone, the Waterloo Community Playhouse’s ninth Shakespeare summer production performs in the beautiful setting of the arboretum’s Rose Garden. With a cast of 22, WCP’s production brings new faces, young and old, to join veteran actors from previous outdoor productions to ask the question of how a democracy will stand when undemocratic methods are used.

About the Theatre & Event:

A seasonal favorite, Shakespeare in the Gardens is a unique and fun play-viewing experience at the Arboretum. Our beautiful gardens take the place of sets and lighting to provide a special show for some of Shakespeare's most famous works. Since 2016, the Waterloo Community Playhouse has been a special partner bringing the magic of theatre while also recognizing Shakespeare's roots by performing his plays outdoors. While we're no Globe Theater, the Arboretum certainly makes a beautiful backdrop for these timeless stories.
